Man Used Fake Gun To Rob Tewksbury Convenience Store: Police

A man who was caught on camera robbing a convenience store armed with what appeared to be a large-capacity gun in Tewksbury has been arrested, and it turns out he was using wasn't a real gun.

Domenic Myers Yancy, 20, of Lowell, was arrested and charged with armed robbery while make and assault with a dangerous weapon, Tewksbury police said. 

Surveillance videos show Yancy running into Andy’s Convenience store on Woburn Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, Tewksbury police said.

He pulled out a Tec9-style gun with an extended magazine and demanded money and other items from the cashier, before running across Woburn Street and into a wooded area.

Yancy was arrested at a home at 12 Commonwealth Ave., in Lowell, around 6 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, Tewksbury police said.

An investigation by Tewksbury detectives revealed that the gun Yancy used during the robbery was a replica.

“This was a collaborative effort from all agencies involved who worked tirelessly since this robbery to get this person off the street,” Tewksbury Police Chief Ryan Columbus said.
